Orthopedic inserts are used to reduce the pain in the feet like arch pain and heel pain. They are used by many people from people suffering with plantar fasciitis to people suffering with arthritis. They are used because their main function is to support and provide comfort for the person wearing it. But sometimes you can hear them give a squeaking noise when using them. That is normal and can be easily rectified with these simple household cures.
Use Powder To Stop The Squeak
Powder is a good cure to stop the orthopedic inserts from squeaking. You can use any type of powder be it talcum, baby or foot powder. Then you must take the insert from the shoe. You must wet a cloth and squeeze of the excess water. Then you must wipe the insert and the inside of your shoe with the damp cloth. Then you have to sprinkle the powder inside the shoe. When sprinkling, you will need to be very generous and will find that you need to sprinkle more than you expect. Then you must rub the powder into the shoe, especially the areas you know to create the friction. Then you have to replace the insert inside the shoe and check for any noises.
Get Rid Of Squeak With Lotions
Another way to get rid of squeaking of insoles for running shoes and boots, is with the use of gel, sprays or creams. You can use any lotions, ideally hand lotions work best. When choosing lotions make sure that they are not petroleum based, not scented and does not have artificial colors, as they might damage the shoe. You must clean the inside of the shoe and insert with a damp cloth. Then you must add a few drops to your palms and rub them together. Then you must apply the lotion to the underside of the insert. You can also use an anti-chaffing gel, especially if you use inserts for running and silicone spray that is food grade. Then you have to replace the insert and test for noises.
Shush The Squeak With Other Materials
Other items around the house like duct tape, dryer sheet and moleskin are good cures too. First you must clean the shoe and the insert with a damp cloth. You can use tape to tape the plastic areas that cause friction. Or you can cut out an insole from dryer sheet and place it inside the shoe. Similarly you can cut out an insole from moleskin for the shape of your shoe and use it. These ideas should stop the noise made in the insoles for running shoes and work boots.
